Ukraine – Odessa

Lyudmila from Russia sent me this beautiful insight of the Roman-Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumption in Odessa. She visited Odessa, Ukraine, in the fall of 2009, bought some cards that she loved and since I love cathedrals she sent me one too.

Bright Star

English version

I don’t know how I do it but even when I’m not reading my books I run across nice topics involving writers, poets, musicians. That’s what happened with Bright Star.

In London of 1818, between John Keats, known and loved poet of the romantic period, and Fanny Brawn, a simple girl, interested in fashion art, begins a beautiful love story that will be cut short by Keats’s premature death.

The film is impressive, touching and full of tenderness. I liked it very much for the simple fact that it catches at a high emotional level a delicate love, intimacy and tenderness, without physical connections involved, so rare in cinema today.

In a society where a young courtship was strictly controlled and had to follow certain rules, the letters, the poems and the talks that the two of them share are revealing their true feelings and emotions that might otherwise be concealed from the eyes of others.

Knowing you can learn poetry or that you can be, without knowing, the inspiration, the muse of a poet seems wonderful to me.

It’s a really sensual film, yearning, kind, joyful, human in all aspects.

Bright star is also the name of one of Keats poems dedicated to miss Brawne.

Poetry – I

I am dreamy and sloppy, I wonder at scars

I hear pianos, I see only stars

I pretend to be careless, I touch the blue skies

I worry for nothing, I cry at goodbyes

I am dreamy and sloppy

Some time ago I ordered my own printed postcards from pictures taken during holidays and old black and white reconditioned postcards from the ‘30s.

So, from my stack of postcards I’m giving away 4 black & white ones to one of you that leaves a comment on this post by 27th of May, 12:00 PM Eastern Europe standard time telling me which is your favorite book or author and why. Open worldwide!

And because this month I completely changed my blog’s template and name from “La Parfumerie d’Ayda” in “Stardust and Dreams” for the first time in almost 3 years, I’m also giving away some Shooting stars, a pair of my handmade earrings made from silver plated cones and moss agate little stars with silver plated ear wires.

Boris Akunin – Leviatan

My first Haiku

Haiku comes from Japan and it’s a form of poetry that usually paints a picture of something in nature. Haiku starts with a vivid image in the first line followed by an interesting transition in the second line which leads to a different image or thought in the third line.

With Haiku, rhyme is not as important as the form. The form is the 5-7-5 syllable pattern of the lines.

I saw a star fall,

Made a wish, kissed her goodnight.

Whispering wind sings moon lullaby.

Grenada

I’ve been away three days and when I got home three postcards were waiting for me.

First one is from a direct swap with Arcadi from St.George, Grenada who was kind to send me a beautiful view of the harbour.

If you never heard about Grenada before then you have to know it’s a little country island and sovereign state consisting of the island of Grenada and other six smaller islands in the Caribbean Sea. Exotic, I might say.

Guatemala

The second one is a nice little girl in a traditional costume, I think, from Guatemala. Gunter thought a smile will bring back the sun.
